Fan's Letters

Dear Mrs Waldner,

On 2nd March I saw you playing Tosca and I would like to thank you for creating such an impressive character.
You gave Tosca a human credibility, which I had never experienced before. I realized, for the first time, that during the performance Tosca evolves from a jealous lover into a woman, who is able to kill in the name of love and pride. The way you acted the Scarpia’s murder, the grief and the fright afterwards was almost too intense. I had a feeling, at some points, that you could have been lost in this role, becoming too much identified with Tosca’s fate. You played a woman, who walks to the borders of her life and is not afraid to expose herself to the existential danger. Dear Mrs. Waldner, I would like to thank you for this touching Tosca with a book that I wrote a few years ago. It is not about the opera, but it deals with music- with the author of the book about Bruckner’s Symphonies. Maybe you’ll like these or some other thoughts.

Best regards

Acknowledgements and admiration

Dear Mrs Waldner,

Yesterday evening, at the cinema, I saw a very good live transmission of Tosca from the Covent Garden. Every time I watch Tosca I compare it with your interpretation of Floria Tosca I have seen several times in the opera of Düsseldorf. Things you achieved as Tosca- both in terms of singing and acting – are, for me, unmatchable (beyond compare) and still, after so many years, I admire you a lot. It would be the most beautiful thing for me if I could hear you singing again. I wish you all the best, much happiness and health.

Warm regards from Düsseldorf

Dear Theresa,

I was, again, moved to tears by your Tosca. Now – The Triptych. It is a wonderful experience to stand on the stage with you and to feel how you and your voice become one. I am fascinated by your dedication, your authenticity, and the way you totally open through your voice and acting. You spread there your incredible strength and spirit, which can be felt also in the last rows of the opera house. I am grateful that I am able to experience that together with you. I embrace (hug) you – as a human and as an artist.

Wishing you all the best.

My dearest Therese,

You are an angel! An angel who sings like an angel! Singing together with you was an honour to me.

Lots of love

Dear Theresa,

I’m writing only to thank you for the great job you did this year. Tosca and our work were important to both of us. I am very pleased that this was your huge success. You deserved it, as, just that, you were wonderful. Also your Elizabeth in Don Carlos must be praised. After few comments before the first performance, you brought so many nuances and colours of women’s  depth and sensitivity. Good job! Anyway, I am very happy that you are in the opera (Deutsche Oper am Rhein) and I am looking forward to oncoming important projects with you. There aren’t many trebles in the world with such a true spinto voice and I am glad to have you here. I want to thank you once again for your great accomplishments and wish you all the best for the upcoming Tosca performances. With love John Fiore.

Dear Mrs. Waldner,

I go to the MET, La Scala, Covent Garden, the Wien Opera and the Staatoper in Berlin from time to time and I have also got the Deutsche Oper am Rhein season ticket. But this is the first time I am writing to an opera singer. Yesterday I heard you as Lady Macbeth in the Duisburg Opera. I must admit that I did not expect to experience something like this, as this opera part is difficult to sing for your singing voice and many other singers fail to sin git well. Therefore, I am much less delighted and I want to congratulate. You gave me an unforgeable evening, that I will remember for a long time, especially when I listen to a life-recording from 1952 with Maria Callas. You were not worse than her! Thank you a lot! With love.

Dear Mrs. Waldner,

As you may already know, I am a music journalist without a residency. I write for the Rheinische Post newspaper in Duisburg mostly (besides, as a scientist-theorist, I am interested in the music of the Baltic region, including Poland). I admired you, quite often, on the stages of Dusseldorf or Duisburg operas, eg. as Tosca, in The Triptych or at the rehearsal open to public at La Wally last Tuesday!

I have just written in my newspaper article that, for me, you are a genius impersonator of this strong, but also sensitive character. Unfortunately, I cannot be at the premiere and also I will not be able to write about it, but I will probably be on the performance on October 1st. Good luck at the premiere! Dear Mrs. Waldner,

I have been interested in the opera for years, and every year I watch many performances in my neighbouring city-Dresden, also in the nearby region, or in many other different places. I am often in Dusseldorf, where I have family and good friends, and I know the opera and concert hall there very well. You have been one of my favourite singers for a long time. Your voice is beautiful and you still delight with the roles you create. I will be in Dusseldorf for few days next week, to listen to the concert performance of The Moscow Ball. I am looking forward to hearing you again. I would like to ask you to send me 1 or 2 autographed photos. I wish you still all the best, many more great successes and thank you in advance for your effort.

Warm regards

Dear Mrs. Waldner,

I owe you the experience of a wonderful opera evening. You were amazing as Aida. And so, thanks to you, the holiday of Pentecost, became a beautiful day. Unfortunately the audience was a little silly and tired, but it happens sometimes. Thank you a lot.

Dear Mrs. Therese Waldner,

With great joy I learnt that you have been granted with this, how honourable, title – „Kammersängerin”. It is right that your extraordinary talent was, again, recognised in the world of professional musical.  The audience, as it is known, is yours, as you charm with your voice and touch people’s hearts. For years, you have been regularly on the world’s most important stages, and recently the Deutsche Oper am Rhein has become your home, which personally delights me. You are one of the greatest ambassadors of Polish culture in the world. Your professional and public, but also private activity, you have great merit for the creating the image of Poland. Because of that I am very grateful to you. May I congratulate you on the „Kammersängerin” title, and I wish you many more successes on „the important world’s scenes”.

Respectfully yours
